Silex Spring Fountain Paint Pot Yellowstone National Park WY

Silex is Latin for silica, the major component of rhyolite, the primary volcanic rock in Yellowstone. It lines the bottom of Silex Spring in the Fountain Paint Pot area in Yellowstone National Park,Wyoming, and forms terraces along the runoff channels. There is some variety of color around the edges of the spring but it is mostly just a beautiful blue (HOT!) spring.

Old Faithful geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming is perhaps the world's most photographed, studied and predicted geyser. On May 1st hundreds of people in Jackson, WY, are eagerly awaiting the opening of Gros Ventre Mountian's elk refuge to collect shed antlers. Antler collecting is good business. A healthy mature bull elk might have a total of 35lbs of antler bone on his head - that's over $350 per pair of dropped antlers. To collect them is well worth the effort.

Ride around town in style in a authentic stagecoach in Jackson Hole, WY. The stage coach with wooden wheels is pulled by two big horses, and the driver looks like a cowboy. You'll feel each bump in the road but if you come to Jackson, Wyoming this is one cool and inexpensive attraction you should put on your must-do list.

A buildings' horizontal and vertical lines and reflective glass facade appear ideal subjects for photography, a medium that is nothing but an exact recorder of distinct volumes in space.

The glass facades of buildings represents not only the interface between interior and exterior. They are also subtle puzzles, mingling with the reflections of their neighbors in reality. This process of visual concentration creates a more intense impression of reality than the direct perception of the real objects would allow. They lend the building poetic quality that fires the imagination.

Desert Spring

Desert Spring

Desert sand verbena begins spreading across the desert.
This brilliant pink,violet or purple fragrant (at nighttime) flowers bloom between February and July following rains. The flower clusters are about the size of a golf ball, and the silver-gray foliage adds to the dramatic effect of this beautiful plant.

2010 will be an excellent blooming season for desert wildflowers after this winter's rains wet the soil.

Taos, New Mexico - Indian Pueblo Cemetery

Taos is a city in New Mexico, about one hour northeast of Santa Fe. One of its highlights is the Taos Pueblo, a Native American reservation and World Heritage site.

One of most interesting parts in the Taos Pueblo is their cemetery. The old bell tower of the old Mission Church of San Geronimo de Taos (1619) still stands, watching over the headstones in this cemetery.

Old Town Sacramento, California - Cityscape

Located on the banks of the Sacramento River, Old Town Sacramento, which is known for its rich historical contributions to California, began as a trading post, and it experienced explosive growth. Today with dozens of historic Gold Rush-era buildings Old Town Sacramento has been named a National Landmark, and a portion of it is designated as a State Historic Park. Over 5 million people a year are drawn here for its museums, shops and restaurants.

Los Angeles - a gem for photographers

Los Angeles, the largest city in California, is fascinating and offers many gems for photographers.
Of course L.A. is a major tourist trap, however, the Business District is almost deprived of crowds on weekends, making a photography tour a pleasant experience.

Funny Critters

Lush Aspen Forest

Diamond Princess is a "big ship with a small ship feel". The ship debuted as the Princess fleet's biggest, and it is the first cruise ship built in Japan in more than a decade.

The ship holds four pools plus a kiddie splash pool and an extensive children's center, and it offers cutting edge entertainment and programs, restaurants, bars and even a dedicated art gallery where you can buy reproductions and original art.

Quarai Salinas Pueblo Mission, New Mexico

The largest stone - as opposed to adobe - mission church in New Mexico is Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Cuarac, now called Quarai (Nuestra Senora de la Purisima Concepcion de Cuarac). This Catholic Church north of Mountainair, NM was built in 1629 on an already existing Tiwa Indian pueblo. In 1632 Quarai became the seat of the Inquisition in New Mexico.

In 1678 the inhabitants abandoned the site due to Apache attacks and lack of water. The church was left unfinished. Today the ruins of Quarai and three more Salinas Pueblo Missions are a National Monument.

Point Pinos Lighthouse, CA, in fog

Point Pinos Light, on the Pacific coast of California. was built in 1855 to guide ships through the dangerous southern entrance of the Monterey Bay. The name Punta de los Pinos translated to “Point of the Pines”, is an appropriate designation for the thickly wooded northern tip of the Monterey Peninsula where the pines grew almost to the water’s edge.

Often spelled Point Piños, Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continuously-operating lightstation on the West Coast of the United States. Even the lens is original. Its first lightkeeper, Charles Layton, was killed in 1856 while serving as a member of the sheriff’s posse chasing the notorious outlaw, Anastacio Garcia.

In early Pacific Grove days Point Pinos Lighthouse was more than an aid to navigation; it was a social hub. Robert Louis Stevenson wrote of visiting lightkeeper Allen Luce in 1879 in The Old Pacific Capital, and Mrs. Emily Fish, Point Pinos’s most famous lightkeeper, was nicknamed “The Socialite Lightkeeper” for the many parties and dinners she held at the building.

A Doxie and a Golden – Two of a kind!

A Doxie and a Golden – Two of a kind!

Golden Retrievers are without any doubt smart and loyal dogs. But the Dachshund is a good dog too, smart and fast, and a comedy show on its own.

The ‘Wiener’ is an early warning system. The Golden only barks when necessary and is good for ‘effect’ when you consider intruders…big bark and big presence.

It takes a special person to own a doxie. This Barking Sausage is very stubborn and an independent thinker, and a little difficult to housebreak. Goldens are good at paying attention and learn quickly.

‘Hot dogs’ do not care that they are small. Waldi (that’s the German nickname for dachshund) acts like a big dog in a small body, keeps up with the big dogs and will usually be the “boss”. Golden Retrievers want nothing more than our love. They are all about pleasing their family and know our every mood.

Dackel, (that’s how the Dachshund is usually called in Germany) are playful, curious, and bold, but they prefer older, considerate children who respect their dog’s space and privacy. Golden’s are the best dog for kids of all ages. gentle, reliable and trustworthy, yet protective.

Doxies ‘think’ that they can rule the world and have a great heart. Golden’s have a great heart and ‘know’ that they can rule the world.

The Dachshund and the Golden Retriever are both very good dogs, and to own both of them is a lot of fun. Just make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner.
