We personally prepare each of our photographs to yield the best possible prints. We use only professional photographic papers, industry-rated to resist fading for 60 to 75 years. Most of our prints are printed professionally and shipped to us for final review and approval, before being sent to you. We occasionally produce smaller print sizes, such as 5"x7" or 8"x10", on our 7-color archival printer (Epson 2200). Prints produced on the Epson 2200 are indistinguishable from traditional prints and will resist fading for a lifetime.

Macro Photography

How to take close-up pictures of small things?

Taking close-up pictures of small things is called "macro photography." I have no idea why. Perhaps because the small things in macro photography are generally larger than the things you are taking pictures of when doing "micro photography". If you really want to be pedantic then you should say you are doing "photomacrography".

If you feel like spending a lot of money then what you want is a 6x6 cm Rollei 6008. The 120/4 Zeiss Makro-Planar (same lens as for a Hasselblad) will set you back about $3400. That's right, you could buy a Nikon 105/2.8 macro lens and three N90 bodies for the price of the Rollei lens alone.
Rollei probably has the most intelligently designed macro system in the world.

Controlling Depth Of Field in your Pictures

An important factor in finding out what will be in focus in a picture is the depth of field in a scene, or the area that will appear sharply focused. For example, a wide-angle picture of a landscape would have a very large depth of field, because every object in the scene appears to be sharp and in focus. However, a portrait taken with a telephoto lens would have a very shallow depth of field, because anything that is not the center of focus (the background, foreground, etc.) would appear to be blurred out.

Controlling depth of field in your pictures

To adjust the depth of field in an image, you must find out what the aperture, shutter speed, and focal length are set to. These are all important factors in determining the depth of field in a scene.

Sunlight is the toughest light to deal with

To get an outdoor photo with high definition to it, you must go out during the right time of day. Don’t expect to get dramatic photos during noon. Why? Because the sun is overhead, it creates harsh shadows on your subjects, and most of the shadows that would show texture (such as during the evening or dawn) are hidden from view. Much of the contrast and saturation that you get from the morning or evening are gone.

Even though these facts are true in most situations, there are actually times when you can get decent photos in bright sunlight, but try it out for yourself. Don’t forget to pack a flash.

The importance of light

Without light, photography would not exist. In fact, the word photography comes from the word photo, a Greek word meaning "light". Before you can understand photography, you must first understand light.

Even if you have the most sophisticated of cameras, and the most expensive and sharpest of lenses, without light your photographs would be impossible, and your cameras and lenses would be useless.
