Pieta Garden Mission Diego de Alcala

If you exit the Mission Diego de Alcalá Church you come into walled courtyard with a garden inside. The garden in a Mission was meant to be a place of contemplation. This garden certainly qualifies.

The  Pieta Garden features two major items: a Pietà statue and a mosaic Stations of the Cross. The Pietà statue, the Thirteenth Station of the Cross, is similar to that carved by Michelangelo in Rome. There is a small walkway by the statue should you care to examine it closely. It is quiet here, hearing only the whispers from the trees swaying in the wind and the birds singing in the warm sunny day. The benches there are old and inviting.

The Mission Diego de Alcala is a beautiful, inviting place, and an encouraging house of worship. You will like it, and if you are of the faith you might use it for what it was built and rebuilt for.

Cross Mission San Diego de Alcala

The Mission San Diego de Alcalá is the first of California's 21 historic missions, and one of the best. Founded in 1769 by Father Junipero Serra, this first Franciscan mission in Alta California is older than the USA.

What struck me was the serenity within the compound despite the fact that the mission abuts current-day San Diego. The long, narrow and beautifully painted Basilica Mission San Diego de Alcala church is rustic and inspiring, soothing for the eyes and the soul.

A visit to this mission is a must to anyone interested in the history of the colonization of Alta California.

St Joseph Immaculate Conception San Diego

In 1917 the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception San Diego, CA was opened for solemn worship. The sanctuary is an entry into heaven where all the angels and saints surround our God worshiping Him without ceasing.

Throughout the church are icons, windows into heaven where we look toward God and the heavenly beings, and they look upon us. The second stained glass window on the north side of the building near the altar is of Saint Joseph, the foster father to Jesus and the patron saint and protector of the Catholic Church and the patron of several countries and regions.

Enter into this church building, into the house of God, into the presence of God, and offer a prayer for the praise of His Holy Name and
for the conversion of the whole world.

Experience Nature In Estero San Jose

Estero San Jose, right in the heart of San Jose del Caboa, is a tropical estuary that is a great spot for bird watching, kayaking or simply wandering along the paths and enjoying the natural beauty of Los Cabos. Estero San Jose is located where the fresh waters of Rio San Jose meet the salt waters of the sea and consists of about 125 acres of estuary that plays an important role in the history and environment of San Jose.

Over 250 species of birds are frequent visitors here. Many types of waterfowl winter here, as do many other shorebird and wading bird species. Herons, egrets, two species of cormorant, pelicans, gulls, frigate birds, Turkey vultures, Caracara and Osprey are among the year round residents, and the estuary provides a good stopover point for other migrating birds as well.

In spite of its luxury hotels and hillside villas, much of the native flora and fauna of Los Cabos remains intact. Sierra de la Laguna, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, protects lush forests that are home to plants and animals unique to the area.
