Chevy Beaumont Fire Museum TX

The Fire Museum of Texas in Beaumont,TX, open since 1984, is dedicated to the preservation and education of the rich history of the fire fighting service. The Museum is housed in the historic 1927 Central Fire Station.

In 1800 the response to a fire was an unorganized effort with leather buckets, wet tote sacks and blankets. In many instances the hope of extinguishing a blaze was hopeless. Today twelve Fire Stations in addition to the working Historic Central Fire Station are located throughout the city of Beaumont. The 27 acre Training Center is one of the States finest fire training facilities offering various fire fighting projects and a six story training tower. A professional effective education and prevention team, administrative team, maintenance, supply, investigation and a communications team now places the Beaumont Fire Department in a position to help protect and serve the citizens and property of Beaumont above and beyond the common perception of just fighting a blaze.

My recent trip to Texas included a trip to the Beaumont firehouse museum. What an exciting place! And admission is free.

St Louis Cemetery No 3 New Orleans

Less visited than other New Orleans cemeteries, St. Louis Cemetery #3 offers a piece of rest and quietude for those both above and below ground. Established in 1854, each tomb recounts a chapter in NOLA's rich history - from immigration patterns to floods and yellow fever outbreaks.

The Big Easy's St. Louis Cemetery Number Three holds approximately 10,000 multiple-use burial sites which include 5,000 in condo-like mausolea, 3,000 wall vaults, 1,500 to 2,000 individual family tombs, and about twelve society tombs of which six to eight are considered active today.

Walk the rows to see marble and stone gravesites that are themselves works of art.
