Bridge over Taschenberg Street Dresden

As Augustus the Strong's official mistress Anna Constantia received the title "Imperial Countess von Cosel".
As an adequate city palace he built Taschenberg Palace, outside the inner Dresden castle complex, for her, with an arched bridge connecting his palace with his favorite mistress's building. August proposed marriage in writing to his lover, who bore him three children, but he did not keep his promise.
For seven years Countess Cosel accompanied Augustus the Strong in everyday life and as his consort in festivities. Today her palace is a 5-star Kempenski Hotel.

Semper Opera house Dresden - A beautiful sight

Lying in the German city of Dresden is a magnificent structure, dear to many musicians and music lovers. Semper Opera, also known as Semperoper, is one of Germany's most popular cultural landmarks. The current opera house stands on the site of a previous 17th century opera house and was first constructed on these grounds in 1841.
Semperoper has been greatly acclaimed as it has featured some of the most notable artists and operas worldwide. Having been re-constructed multiple times, the present building is a confluence of various architectural styles incorporated over time. Set in Theaterplatz, the building is a beautiful sight especially at night when it dazzles in all its glory with lights and soul stirring music.
The oval shaped building features a large central portal topped by a panther-drawn quadriga with Dionysos, Greek god of the art and his consort Ariadne.

Semper Opera House - Semperoper Dresden

Restored to its former magnificence after its destruction in the 1945 bombing of Dresden, this elaborate, High Renaissance style opera house presents opera, ballet and jazz performances.
In 1678 an opera house was already built on the current site of the Semperoper, near the Theaterplatz. A new Opera House in neo-Renaissance style was completed in 1841. In 1869 a fire destroyed the building, so a new Opera House, this time in High Renaissance style was built and opened in 1878. It was destroyed again in February 1945 during the heavy allied bombardments and subsequent fires which laid the whole city of Dresden in ruins. The building was reconstructed forty years later. It reopened in February 1985.
Even for those who don't visit any performances the Semper Opera House (Semperoper) is worth a visit if only to marvel at its ornate interior and exterior.
