Canon's New M30 and M80 Digital Storage Viewers

Canon launched the portable devices, designed with EOS and other digital photographers in mind. The Canon Media Storage M30 and Canon Media Storage M80 devices feature a large ultra-bright 3.7" TFT screen with 160o viewing angle for image and video review, and a 30Gb/80Gb hard disk to store digital images, movie and sound files of various file formats. Both units feature a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface and slots for CF and SD cards.

With their tough, robust magnesium alloy bodies and intuitive navigation familiar to EOS owners, the devices add an important link to the workflow chain of professional photojournalists and photographers on location, outdoor and expedition shoots. They are also expected to be popular with the increasing body of every-day photographers looking for new ways to store and display favourite shots and extend storage capacity whilst away from the computer.

Cokin doesn't come unstuck

Worries that Cokin filters would become unavailable thanks to new UK government regulations were today rubbished by Cokin.
Reports that the manufacture of Cokin filters have been suspended due to new UK government regulations have been categorically denied by Marc Heinz, Director of Sales at Cokin, France. Cokin exports 95% of its products to 116 countries worldwide and was in the process of upgrading equipment used to process the CR39 resin - the high quality plastic used in the spectacle industry - when teething problems were encountered. Marc Heinz commented that, "there were no problems with regulations, we were modernising our equipment to maintain the very high quality of the products and there were some problems with the machinery." This led to a delay in new stocks going out and rumours of regulation issues. Cokin assert that the situation has been remedied and production is back to normal.

Today's Newspaper Photos Are Telling A Better Story

Many talented newspaper photographers in the country are producing good pictures for their readers. And, at the same time, many of the same photographers are producing a lot of awful pictures. It's a problem in American newspapers:
Photographer goes on assignment, sees a great picture situation, shoots a great picture. That's good. Photographer goes on assignment, sees what appears to be a dull picture situation, shoots a dull picture. Same' ol', same' ol' and boring. That's bad.
There also are talented photographers in America who go on assignment, see dull picture situations and shoot great pictures. In the photojournalism profession, we call that making something out of nothing.
Most newspaper photographers come up with these pictures on occasion. But the photographers who are performing at the highest level - those who are recognized as the best in the profession - come back, assignment after assignment, with compelling, special story telling pictures from apparently barren visual situations - virtually every time.

Pentax K100D Review, December 2006, Phil Askey

The K100D and K110D digital SLRs were announced in May 2006, aimed as a straight replacement for the *ist DS series (actually the DS2) these two SLRs are designed to appeal to the affordable end of the digital SLR market but don't compromise on features. The only difference between the K100D and K110D are that the K100D includes Pentax's own CCD-shift type 'Shake Reduction' system, where as the K110D does not. The main differences between the K100D and the *ist DS2 are the slightly redesigned body, a move to a Penta-mirror viewfinder (as per the DL2, the DS2 has a Penta-prism), a reduced continuous shooting buffer, P-TTL only flash metering and introduction of in-camera Shake Reduction.
