Morning has broken - Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco

Although San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is not the worlds widest, tallest, or most trafficked Bridge, and the Bridge's 4,200-foot-long main suspension span (the distance between the towers) ranks only 9th in the world in terms of length, Golden Gate Bridge is one of 'the Worlds Ten Most Amazing Views'. The pedestrian railings, modest, uniform posts placed far enough apart to allow an unobstructed view, the lean light posts in an angled form, the wide, vertical ribbing on the horizontal tower bracing to accent the sun's light on the structure, the rectangular tower portals that decrease on ascent emphasizing the tower height, define Golden Gate Bridge's art deco form. It is this form which is known and admired all over the world. Walking out onto the span from either end is one of the best ways to experience the immense scale of the structure and the perfect place to sing "San Francisco ... open your Golden Gate."

I guard the California shore - Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco CA

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, is possibly the most beautiful and certainly the most photographed suspension bridge in the world. It spans tidal currents, ocean waves, and battering winds to connect the City by the Bay on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula with the Redwood Empire to the north. About nine million people from around the world visit San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, one of the 'modern Wonders of the World', each year. Golden Gate Bridge's official hue is not gold but International Orange. It is named for the Golden Gate Strait, the narrow entrance between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. The strait was named by explorer and U.S. Army officer John C. Frémont, who marveled at its beauty in 1846 — two years before the discovery of gold in California. In his memoirs, he wrote that he named it Chrysopolae (Golden Gate) because of its similarity to the harbor of Byzantium (modern-day Istanbul), dubbed Chrysoceras (Golden Horn).

Royal Gorge Bridge Colorado - Take a walk across the sky

When looking down is even more breathtaking than looking up then you are at Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City, CO (Colorado Springs, CO area). Hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) high and spanning a quarter mile across the Arkansas river, the suspension bridge is a unique combination of human achievement and scenic beauty. Walking or driving across the Royal Gorge Bridge is a quarter-mile journey through the clouds. The view into the gorge is breathtaking. Those who are not up to that much of 'natural adrenaline' can look at the Royal Gorge from a more relaxing angle. There is a train that rides through the Gorge - the Royal Gorge Route. It offers a 24-mile ride through the canyon.

Arizona Import - Iconic London Bridge

Lake Havasu City is a cute little town. It got its start as an Army Air Corps rest camp during World War II, and has now over 1,000 businesses, two newspapers and a college. All thanks to a Bridge not falling down! How did the world famous London Bridge come to make its unusual home in Arizona? In 1967, the Common Council of the City of London looked for buyers of the bridge. In 1968 Lake Havasu City founder and entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch placed the winning bid of $2,460,000. Each block was meticulously numbered before the bridge was disassembled. The blocks were then shipped overseas through the Panama Canal to California and trucked from Long Beach to Arizona. Following reconstruction of the London Bridge, Lake Havasu City rededicated it in a ceremony on October 10, 1971. The bridge is now shorter than it used to be. When it was rebuilt, almost 60 of its original 1005 feet were removed. Despite the fact that the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City is just a shameless tourist attraction in the middle-of-nowhere, I still enjoyed seeing the scars from WWII that mar the bridge's granite surface, the vintage lamps on the bridge made from melted down cannons of Napoleon Bonaparte's army, and strolling over the sparkling Bridgewater Channel Canal.
