PhotoFrame Pro wins PC Photo Editors' Choice

PC Photo Magazine recently gave PhotoFrame Pro 3 a PC Photo Editors' Choice award for 2006. If you didn't see the December issue, here's what they had to say.

"When I printed images in a traditional darkroom, I enjoyed prints with an edge border created by filing the negative carrier. In the digital age, I can achieve this and other effects without putting a file to my computer using onOne PhotoFame 3.0. I love the ease by which I can use this plug-in to produce a host of edge effects. The software allows you to apply single or multiple frames or edge effects for a customized look. You can preview the effect before applying it to the final image."

Add the perfect finishing touch to your photos
There are many ways to add border and edge effects manually using a variety of tools in Photoshop. Regardless the method, none are easier or more fun to use than the all new PhotoFrame Pro 3. Whether you want something subtle, extreme or even a realistic looking frame and matte, there's no better way to add that perfect finishing touch to your photo than with PhotoFrame Pro 3.

The new features in PhotoFrame Pro 3 will allow you to quickly and easily create amazing edge effects that complement your image. Every effect and option in PhotoFrame Pro can be previewed in real-time. So when you're adding a sublte drop-shadow to your image like the one here, you can visually adjust it and get it perfect the first time.

If you haven't tried PhotoFrame Pro 3 yet, be sure to download a demo today!

Must-See Exhibit: Esteban Pastorino 3D

Now through December 30, head on over to Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery in Dallas, Texas, for Esteban Pastorino 3-D.

Pastorino has taken over the entire gallery space for this show and there is a lot of interesting work to experience. Highlights include aerial photographs from Spain, 61"-wide panoramic images and a "3-D room" where you'll don 3-D glasses to view panoramic photographs in light boxes. A lot of these intriguing photos, most notably the ones of old Spanish Spaghetti Western movie sets, have been manipulated to look like small toys.

onOne Software and Photoshop CS3

What an exciting time to be a professional photographer and Photoshop user! As you have most certainly heard already, Adobe has made Photoshop CS3 available to the public as a beta release. If you plan to or have already downloaded Photoshop CS3 to play with, you might be wondering how the onOne Software Photoshop plug-ins work with CS3. This week, they've made two pretty big announcements regarding our products and Photoshop CS3.

First, onOne announced a new version of Genuine Fractals 5 that will be shipping in the spring of 2007 around the same time Adobe expects to ship Photoshop CS3. Genuine Fractals 5 and Genuine Fractals Print Pro 5 will be free updates to anybody who purchases Genuine Fractals 4.1 or Genuine Fractals Print Pro 4.1 (respectively) on or after December 18, 2006. Genuine Fractals 5 will include many new features and significant speed improvements and will be a significant upgrade. You can read more about Genuine Fractals 5 in onOne's official press release. Also, be sure to check in with our onOne's blog as they'll be posting more information there over the next few weeks.

Second, onOne announced this week our plans for adding Photoshop CS3 compatibility to PhotoFrame Pro, Mask Pro, Intellihance Pro and Genuine Fractals. If you are a registered user of PhotoFrame Pro 3, Intellihance Pro 4 or Mask Pro 4, you will be eligible to download the Photoshop CS3 compatibility updates for free. For Genuine Fractals and Photoshop CS3 compatibility, you'll need to have Genuine Fractals 5, which is a free update to anybody who purchases Genuine Fractals 4.1 or Genuine Fractals Print Pro 4.1 on or after December 18, 2006. However, don't give much about "customer" reviews about stores. More and more they seem to be written by someone who never used that particular store to complete a purchase of an item; someone who has no Credit Card / PayPal, a paid review writer or a competitor or just a mean person. Just check them out for yourself and get your own opinion.

Blue Vertigo

More than 1.000 links: Fonts, Stock Photography, Photoshop Brushes, Vector Clip-Art, Logotypes, Patterns, Icons and much more!

Blue Vertigo has collected together a nice big pile of design resource links. Including many places to go for free stock photography, vector clip art, ... A very long collection of interesting web design resources, subvided in chapters. The code (composed by frames, table layout, not standard list) must be traduct from scratch in XHTML + CSS, but the alternation of titles and lists, that are disposed in multi-colums way, is interesting as the fixed footer for the site menu and the small javascript that allow - Opera excluded - a mouse scrolling as with a vertical page.

Photoshop CS3 Beta

Adobe Releases Beta Version of Photoshop CS3

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) will introduce a beta version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 software, the next release of the world standard in digital imaging, on Friday, December 15th. Adobe is delivering a widely available Photoshop CS3 beta to enable customers to more easily transition to the latest hardware platforms, particularly Apple's new Intel-based systems. The beta is available as a Universal Binary for the Macintosh platform, as well as for Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista computers. The final shipping release of Adobe Photoshop CS3 is planned for Spring 2007. The software can be downloaded at: http://labs.adobe.com , in the early hours Pacific Standard Time on December 15.

Packed with new features, Photoshop CS3 beta also includes a pre-release version of a major upgrade to Adobe Bridge, as well as a preview release of the all-new Adobe Device Central. Photoshop customers can use Adobe Device Central to design, preview, and test compelling mobile content, created specifically for smaller screens. This new tool, integrated in the Photoshop CS3 beta, simplifies and accelerates the creation of mobile content through a preview environment and built-in device profiles. "This is an exciting time for the Mac, and Adobe wanted to ease the move to new Intel-based systems with a preview release of Photoshop CS3," said John Loiacono, senior vice president of Creative Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. "We didn't want to leave Windows customers out of the party, so the beta is available to everyone in the creative industry's most passionate user community - matter what their platform choice. We still have some surprises in store, but this beta gives customers an early chance to see the power of another great Photoshop release, optimized and tuned to run natively on the latest hardware and operating systems."
To utilize Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta, customers require a serial number from either Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Creative Suite 2, Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio, Adobe Design Bundle, Adobe Web Bundle or Adobe Video Bundle. Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta is available in English only. Customers who have a valid serial number for all other language versions of qualifying Adobe products can download the software. Without a serial number, users can still download Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta, with the product expiring after two days. Customers must register online with Adobe or have an existing Adobe.com membership account to access the software.
In related previews of future technologies, Adobe has also released two new web tools as beta releases. Adobe CSS Advisor is a new web-based community site to easily identify and resolve browser compatibility issues. Web designers and developers can contribute their own issues, comment on existing issues, or become an editor to participate in driving the site's future. The site is accessible at: www.adobe.com/go/cssadvisor. Also introduced is a beta release of Adobe Spry framework for Ajax, a designer-focused solution for adding the interactive power of Ajax when developing rich, dynamic web-sites. Adobe Spry framework for Ajax is available at: www.adobe.com/go/spry. System Requirements
For Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta, recommended system requirements are as follows. For Macintosh: Mac OSX 10.4.8 or 10.5, 1 GHz PowerPC G4 or G5 processor, Intel based Macintosh. For Windows: Intel Xeon , Xeon Dual, Centrino or Pentium 4 processor, Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher, Microsoft Windows Vista. Both platforms require 512 MB RAM and a 1024x769 resolution screen. Photoshop CS3 beta will expire soon after the launch of Photoshop CS3 in Spring 2007. Details on final pricing, system requirements and availability have yet to be determined.

Digital SLR Cameras Reviews

Best Digital SLR Cameras Reviews: (out of 38) PC Magazine, CNet.com, PopPhoto.com
Best Digital SLR Cameras: (out of 30) Canon Digital Rebel XT, Nikon D50, Olympus Evolt E-500

Top Rated
What the Research Says
Canon Digital Rebel XT (*est. $700 with lens) >> Where to buy
Best entry-level digital SLR.Among entry-level digital SLR cameras, reviews give the 8-megapixel Canon Digital Rebel XT top ranking for image quality. It's also easy to use, and for action shots, it can shoot at 3 frames per second (up to 14 shots at a burst). It comes with good software too. Downsides are that a battery charge lasts about 600 shots (without flash) -- not nearly as long as Nikon cameras. The Rebel XT also has a small 1.8-inch LCD. Reviews say image quality slightly outpaces the competing Nikon D50, but some experts prefer the handling on the Nikon digital SLR. (*est. $700 with lens)

Nikon D50 (*est. $700 with lens) >> Where to buy
Best battery life.Long battery life (2,000 shots per charge without flash) makes the Nikon D50 a great choice for travel. Spot metering improves shots of backlit subjects, and flash sync is fast for daylight fill. Compared to Canon, some reviews prefer the Nikon D50's build and controls. This camera can automatically track moving subjects, with shots at 2.5 fps, up to 10 at once. But reviews say the bundled software isn't the best. (*est. $700 with lens)

Olympus Evolt E-500 (*est. $600 with lens) >> Where to buy
Lightest DSLR.Reviews say the Olympus Evolt E-500 is the best choice in this price range, with a large 2.5-inch LCD screen and self-cleaning sensor. It's slower and harder to use than the slightly more expensive Nikon D50 and Canon Rebel XT, and it doesn't quite match their image quality or available lenses. But it is lighter than both of those cameras, weighing just under a pound. At 900 shots per charge, battery life isn't bad either. (*est. $600 with lens)

Canon Digital Rebel XTi (*est. $900 with lens) >> Where to buy
Best high-resolution budget digital SLR.Reviews praise the new 10-megapixel Canon Digital Rebel XTi for top image quality at all ISO settings, and its high resolution gives more latitude for cropping and large prints. Dust is reduced both with a self-cleaning sensor and a special image processor. An auto depth-of-field setting can keep all objects in the shot in sharp focus. Compared to the Rebel XT and its 1.8-inch LCD, the XTi has a much larger 2.5-inch LCD. (*est. $900 with lens)
