Upcoming Photo Events And Contests

June 7-14: LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph The second annual LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph will return to Charlottesville, Va., from June 12 to 14. This year's featured photographers are Mary Ellen Mark, Joel-Peter Witkin and James Nachtwey. LOOK3 Workshops will be held June 7-12, featuring instructors David Alan Harvey, Eugene Richards and William Albert Allard.Details are online at festivalofthephotograph.org
June 9: Extended deadline for PDN's PIX Digital Imaging Contest 14 Sponsored by Samsung, this contest recognizes excellence and innovation in the use of digital imaging. Details are online here.

June 10: Grand Prix Care International Du Reportage Humanitaire deadline The Grand Prix Care International Du Reportage Humanitaire award is open to professional photographers who bear testimony to major humanitarian catastrophes. It will offer a prize of 8,000 Euros at the Visa pour l'Image festival in Perpignan, France. English-language rules are available online here in PDF format.

June 10-11: LE BOOK CONNECTIONS LE BOOK, a reference guide for fashion, photography and advertising, will hold its CONNECTIONS trade show in New York on June 10 and 11. The event is at The Puck Building in SoHo and is by invitation only. Details online at www.lebook.com/connections.

June 16: Bayeux-Calvados War Correspondents Prize deadline The Bayeux-Calvados War Correspondents Prize awards 7,600 Euro prizes in several categories, including photography. This is the prize's 15th anniversary. The deadline to apply is June 16. Details are online at http://www.prixbayeux.org/.

June 20: Ian Parry Scholarship Deadline The deadline to apply to the 2008 Ian Parry Scholarship is June 20. Each year the scholarship awards a prize of £2,500 to a photographer under the age of 24 or attending a full-time photography course. Details are online at http://www.ianparry.org/.

June 20: Open Society Institute Distribution Grant Deadline OSI is awarding grants of between $5,000 and $30,000 to documentary photographers through its Documentary Photography Project. The grants will go to photographers who have already completed a significant body of work on social justice issues and who are working in partnership with another organization. The application deadline is June 20. Details online here.

July 1: Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Grant Deadline A new Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Grant has been established in memory of photojournalist Alexandra Boulat, who died last year, and her father, photojournalist Pierre Boulat. The grant will fund a photo story that cannot otherwise find support in the media. The deadline to apply is July 1. Details are online here.

July 14: Photography.Book.Now Deadline The Photography.Book.Now International Salon and Symposium seeks entries for a new photography book competition, with a grand prize of $25,000 to support a photo project. The entry deadline is July 14. Details are online at photographybooknow.com.

July 15: Howard Chapnick Grant Deadline Applications are being accepted for the 2008 Howard Chapnick Grant, an award of $5,000 to support an ancillary field of photojournalism, such as editing, research, education and management. The deadline to apply is July 15. Application forms are available at http://www.smithfund.org/.

July 17: Berenice Abbott Prize deadline The Berenice Abbott Prize for an Emerging Photographer offers a photographer a one-person exhibit at the Julia Dean Gallery at Venice Beach, California and a Canon EOS Digital SLR Camera. The deadline to apply is July 17. Details are online here.

July 31: City of Levallois - EPSON Photography Award Deadline The City of Levallois and EPSON France have launched the first Levallois-EPSON Photography Award, with a prize of 10,000 Euros. Photographers wishing to apply can view the rules and download forms at http://www.photo-levallois.org/.

Aug. 1: PIX Digital Imaging Contest Deadline PDN's PIX Digital Imaging Contest 14 is accepting entries. The contest recognizes excellence and innovation in the use of digital imaging. Complete entry details are online here.

Sept. 5: First Book Prize Deadline The biennial Center for Documentary Studies/Honickman First Book Prize competition is open to American photographers of any age who have never published a book-length work. The judge this year is photographer Mary Ellen Mark. Submissions for the 2008 competition will be accepted from June 9 to September 5, 2008.
