Saint Vitus' Cathedral (Katedrála svatého Víta) in Prague, CZ is the spiritual symbol of the Czech Republic. The the cathedral's foundation stone was laid in 1344 upon the site of an earlier 10th century rotunda. All in all it took nearly six centuries to complete this Gothic masterpiece.
The windows of the Cathedral transmit a subtle and frequently coloured light. They have not only aesthetic but also symbolic significance. The enormous interior of St. Vitus Cathedral is a holy place ripped out of this world, a "heavenly Jerusalem", which is not illuminated by natural light but by the unearthly and mystical coloured light of God's glory.
