The Scream

Relief (from Italian, rilievare: to raise) is a sculptural technique. This technique is quite ancient, and it has been used independently in many cultures from Mesoamerica to India. It is believed to have pre-dated sculpture, as it is easier to create than a free-standing full-figure.
Contemporary neo-classical reliefs can be found on the façades and in interiors of numerous buildings in many nations of the world. Many are in classical Roman or Greek style while others reflect a more natural approach to form, even some in an unfinished style reminiscent of Michelangelo's later sculptures.
Many beautiful relief sculptures can be found on front façades on the most beautiful burgher houses in Munich, Germany.
The face in this photograph so sad - it hurts to look at it. It screams a sculpted language we can never hear ...
