The importance of light

Without light, photography would not exist. In fact, the word photography comes from the word photo, a Greek word meaning "light". Before you can understand photography, you must first understand light.

Even if you have the most sophisticated of cameras, and the most expensive and sharpest of lenses, without light your photographs would be impossible, and your cameras and lenses would be useless.

The right image can add impact to that big presentation, an important report, or even an e-mail message that needs to make a statement. But, if you are not a photography expert, do you really have the time to find and edit the pictures you would like to use?
You might be surprised at how fast and easy it can be.

Summer Skiing = Summer Fun

If you didn’t squeeze in a snowy adventure this winter, no need to kick yourself. California’s Mammoth Mountain slopes remained open through July 4. Yup. That was some hardcore Cali shiznit right there. I'm talking t-shirts on the slopes, people.Check out their website

Thoughts About Photography as an Art Medium

The use of the term art medium is, to say the least, misleading, for it is the artist that creates a work of art not the medium.
It is the artist in photography that gives form to content by a distillation of ideas, thought, experience, insight and understanding.

Inspiration - The Heart of Photography

Of course, there will always be those who look only at technique, who ask "how," while others of a more curious nature will ask "why."
Personally, I have always preferred inspiration to information.

Truth about Photography

Photography to the amateur is recreation,
to the professional it is work, and hard work too,
no matter how pleasurable it my be.
Edward Weston said that, and I have to agree.

Photography is very pleasurable, but most of all it's work.
Let's do it.

What is Photography?

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever ... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.

Images have to show YOUR point of view

I think you have to have a real point of view that's your own. You have to tell it your way. And, I think that it's a mistake to shoot for a specific magazine's point of view because it's never going to be as good.
You have to shoot for yourself and photograph the way you believe it.

A good photograph makes you feel, think and dream

Ever since I do photography Ansel Adams words:
"Simply look with perceptive eyes at the world about you, and trust to your own reactions and convictions. Ask yourself: "Does this subject move me to feel, think and dream? Can I visualize a print - my own personal statement of what I feel and want to convey - from the subject before me?"
are on my mind.
A photograph that doesn't make me feel, think and dream has no purpose.
