Guanyin Bodhisattva - Jin'an's rare female Buddha

As the oldest shrine in Shanghai, China, the locals regard Jin'an Temple higher than the tourist favorite Jade Buddha Temple.
In Jingan's east gallery stands the Guanyin Bodhisattva, a rare female Buddha carved from a thousand year old camphor tree. This goddess, the bodhisattva of compassion and provider of children, stands on a lotus-shaped base and is 6.2 meter tall. As all Bodhisattvas, she shares only one of the 32 physical attributes of a Buddha - the elongated earlobes.
In China Guanyin Bodhisattva is one of the most popular of Chinese deities. In ancient times of suffering and poverty, Guanyin used her breast milk to feed the rice plants and, therefore, the people.
